A Guide to Front Door Materials

A Guide to Front Door Materials

Is it time to replace your home’s front door?

Is it time to replace your home’s front door? Jim Amos Contracting is here! We work with high quality local distributors to give you the best options possible. All you need to do is pick one out. Which front door material is best for your home?

Wood

Wood is a classic front door material, and it is very popular. It is highly customizable, so it’s easy to match your tastes and your home’s individual style. You can add glass accents, side lights, and transoms easily to a wood front door. One down side of a wood door is that they do tend to be susceptible to moisture damage.

Fiberglass

A fiberglass front door can be made to look similar to a wood door, but the material tends to be a bit more durable. They can be ordered in several different hues, and painted however you want. Your fiberglass front door is filled with insulation, so it may be more energy efficient than a wooden one. A fiberglass door does cost more up front, but it will save you money on your utilities over time.

Steel

A steel front door is the best option if you’re looking for something that will be highly secure. Typically, steel doors are made of heavy duty foam with steel panels on either side. While this design is great for security and insulation, if the steel gets dented it is extremely difficult to pop those dents out. In many cases, you won’t be able to pop out dents at all.

Glass

A solid glass front door makes a statement. It gives you a fabulous view of the outdoors and helps to brighten your entryway. Unfortunately, that view does go both ways. Wherever you can see out, your neighbors will be able to see in so a glass door isn’t very private. A glass door also isn’t very energy efficient, as heat and cold just go right through it.
