Today we will discuss four reasons that it may be time for siding installation. When homeowners think of home improvement projects, their home’s siding is often an afterthought. However, a home’s siding is significant for many reasons. One, it protects your home from the elements such as rain, wind, and snow. Two, the wrong siding can look extraneous compared to the rest of the house, depending on the color and design you pick. Vinyl siding can last anywhere between 20 to 40 years if installed correctly. If not, your home’s siding may be susceptible to a shortened life span. Here are four sure signs that siding installation should be on your to-do list.

If Your Home’s Siding is Warping or Buckling

As temperatures fluctuate, it’s normal for siding to expand and contract. However, vinyl siding should never be nailed to fasteners too tightly. Otherwise, the siding may begin to warp and buckle. An indicator that the siding wasn’t nailed to the fasteners too tightly is you being able to move the panels horizontally about a half-inch or so. If you can’t do this, it’s worth giving us a call.

If There is Severe Water Damage

Keep tabs on your exterior siding throughout the year. Gray, white, and black spots indicate that there’s mold or mildew you should take care of sooner rather than later.

If There is Insect Damage

If bugs, such as termites, are making their way under your vinyl siding, you should indeed check for termite damage. Push the tip of a screwdriver against your siding, and if the screwdriver digs into the material easily, you may have an insect issue.

If There is Structural Damage

If you live in an older home, it’s always worth it to examine how structurally sound it is. When some older properties settle over the years, they can shift ever so slightly. If this ever happens, it could cause your siding to buckle or bulge.

In a nutshell, if you know that your siding has seen better days, you should contact Jim Amos Contracting, Inc. We specialize in siding installation and want nothing more than to make your home safer, more valuable, and high-ranking in curb appeal.
